Terms of service

This agreement is between you and ClippyOS (“ClippyOS”, “we”, “us”), operated from the United Kingdom. It covers the ClippyOS website and application. The privacy policy explains how we handle personal data and forms part of this agreement.

You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent where you live) and able to enter a contract to use ClippyOS.

ClippyOS turns a folder of your video clips — optionally guided by a reference reel you choose — into sets of finished short-form reels. It scores your footage, reads the reference’s structure, assembles and renders the videos in your browser, and writes the results to your disk.

It is not a video editor, a hosting service, or a social platform. It does not post on your behalf, and it does not store media for you.

ClippyOS’s defining property, stated here so it has contractual weight: your footage is read, analysed, and rendered on your own device, inside your browser. It is never uploaded to us and never stored by us. Our servers handle four things: authentication, subscriptions, fetching reference reels (fetched, streamed to your browser, discarded), and short AI calls — transcript and quote text, plus at most a single frame of the reference reel you pasted, never a frame of your own footage (the privacy policy lists exactly what is sent).

A practical consequence: your clips and finished videos live on your machine, under your control and your backups. If your disk fails or your browser data is cleared, we have no copy to restore — by design.

• Give accurate details and keep your password to yourself.
• You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• One account is for one person or one team’s use of the product — not for wrapping ClippyOS in your own service (see acceptable use).
• Tell us promptly through the contact form or at support@clippyos.com if you think your account has been compromised.

Pro is $79 per month, billed monthly through Stripe. It includes every reel in every set, clean (mark-free) exports with no export limit, editing, and up to 500 reels generated per week (a week is seven days, counted from your first generation as a Pro member and rolling from there). That is the only limit on the plan: exports, re-exports and re-cuts are not metered at all, because they are rendered on your own machine. The ceiling exists to prevent resale of the service, not to ration normal use — posting three times a day uses about four per cent of it. A set that would run past the week’s remaining reels is cut whole rather than trimmed, and ClippyOS tells you before you press.

• Cancel anytime — two clicks in billing settings, no email, no retention call. Your subscription runs to the end of the period you’ve paid for, then stops. No contracts, no lock-in.
• Videos you have already exported are files on your disk and are unaffected by cancelling — they were never ours to take back.
• If a payment fails, Stripe retries. If it can’t be recovered, your account returns to the free tier. Nothing on your machine is touched.
• Prices can change. We will give existing subscribers at least 30 days’ notice by email before any change affects them.
• Refunds: monthly subscriptions aren’t pro-rated, but if something went genuinely wrong, write to us or email support@clippyos.com — a human reads it.

Your 14-day right to cancel (UK and EU consumers). If you are a consumer in the UK or EU, you have a legal right to cancel a new subscription within 14 days of buying it and get your money back (under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and EU Directive 2011/83). Because Pro starts working the moment you subscribe, subscribing is your request that we provide the service immediately rather than after the 14 days. If you cancel within those 14 days and haven’t used any Pro exports, the refund is in full. If you have, we may deduct a proportionate amount for the service you used and refund the rest. To cancel this way, email support@clippyos.com or use the contact form and say you are cancelling — no particular wording is required. This sits alongside, not instead of, the goodwill refund line above and the cancel-anytime terms.

Every account starts free with one generate, counted only when your run successfully produces videos — a technical failure never uses it up. ClippyOS cuts the full set in your browser. One finished reel is yours in full — every version of it, watchable and exportable, carrying a small ClippyOS mark — and the rest of the set is shown blurred until you upgrade. Clean exports, the rest of the set and editing reels (transcripts, typefaces, re-cuts) require a Pro subscription. The free tier has no card requirement and no time limit.

• Your footage stays yours. We claim no rights over your clips — we never even receive them.
• Your finished videos are yours. To the extent ClippyOS’s assembly contributes anything protectable, we assign it to you. Post them, sell them, do as you like — no attribution required.
• You are responsible for having the rights to the footage you use: it should be yours, or you should have permission from whoever owns it and from identifiable people in it where the law requires.
• Quote text generated for your videos is written fresh in the reference’s theme rather than copied from it, precisely so you are not republishing someone else’s writing. Review what you post — you are the publisher of your own content.

Don’t use ClippyOS to:

• process footage you have no right to use.
• produce content that is unlawful — including content that harasses, defames, deceives, or sexualises minors.
• resell, sublicense, or wrap the service — the export ceiling exists for this reason, and systematic resale is a breach regardless of volume.
• probe, overload, or interfere with the service, or evade its limits (including the free tier’s one generate or its locked reels).

Because rendering happens on your machine, we cannot see what you make — moderation of your output is your responsibility as its publisher. We act on what we can see: accounts, billing, and abuse of our servers.

Pasting a reel’s link asks ClippyOS to fetch it, analyse its structure — cut timing, pacing, text placement, the track’s name — and discard it. The analysis reads the reel the way an editor watching it would. The reel itself is never stored, and its footage is never used in your videos. Only paste links to content that is publicly available, and use the feature to learn structure, not to duplicate someone’s work — quote text is regenerated, never copied, for that reason.

ClippyOS never embeds licensed music in your exports. Instagram’s licensed audio exists only inside Instagram: a track baked into an uploaded file gets the post muted or removed. ClippyOS uses the reference’s audio for timing only and tells you the track’s name so you can add it in the app when you post. Your own recorded voice is yours and stays in the video.

The platforms you post to have their own terms. Complying with them is between you and the platform. ClippyOS is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Instagram or any other platform.

• ClippyOS runs in Chrome or Edge on a desktop or laptop — rendering uses WebCodecs, which other browsers and phones don’t yet support well. The app tells you immediately if your browser can’t run it.
• The tab must stay open while your reels render — the work happens in it.
• Rendering speed depends on your hardware. Run times vary machine to machine.
• We aim for the service to be reliably available but don’t promise uninterrupted operation — maintenance, our providers, and reference-fetch sources (which can break when platforms change) are outside any absolute guarantee.

ClippyOS is provided “as is”. We work hard on output quality — that is the product — but we cannot promise any particular video will suit your purpose, perform on any platform, or gain any audience. Nothing in this section limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot lawfully be excluded, including that services be provided with reasonable care and skill.

We do not exclude liability where it would be unlawful to — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Beyond that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (lost profits, lost audiences, lost data we never held), and our total liability under this agreement is capped at the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or £100 if you have paid nothing.

Keep your own backups of footage and exports — they live on your machine, and their safekeeping there is necessarily yours.

You can close your account at any time from settings, which deletes your account data as the privacy policy describes. We can suspend or close accounts that breach these terms — where reasonable we will warn you first, and unless the breach makes it inappropriate, you keep access to the end of any paid period. Your exported videos, on your disk, are unaffected by any account closure in either direction.

If we make a material change, we will email account holders at least 14 days before it takes effect and update the date above. Continuing to use ClippyOS after that date is acceptance. If you disagree with a change, cancel before it takes effect and it never binds you.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction — except that if you are a consumer elsewhere, you keep the protection of your local law’s mandatory rules and can bring claims at home.
